On behalf of our members, the executive and the board of directors welcome you to the Moncton Intercultural Heritage Association. Consisting mainly of visible minority Canadians originating from Africa, Afro Canadians, English, French and Creole speaking Afro Caribbeans, it is the only entirely bilingual association of the province of New Brunswick. Based on the composition of the Association, we see ourselves as individuals with a common ancestry and we therefore do not make any distinction between our members as do the rest of society itself between french-speaking Afro-American, english-speaking Afro-American or creole-speaking Afro-American. As Afro-Americans, we all live the same reality. This characteristic is what constitutes the uniqueness of our Association.
According to our Constitution, the Association pursues the following objectives:
a) promotion and defense of individual human rights,
b) creation of interdependent bonds and intercultural comprehension,
c) promotion of harmonious relations between all without distinction,
d) creation of cultural sensitivity through education of the Canadian public, local and regional communities.
In accordance with our Constitution and The Canadian Multiculturalism Act, our Association wishes to promote the full and equitable participation of its members in the continuing evolution and shaping of all aspects of Canadian society and to assist them in the elimination of any barrier to their economic, political, social and cultural participation in Canadian society.
In accordance with those principles, our Association strongly encourages its members to make all efforts on one hand, to proudly affirm their cultural identity and their values and on the other, to be receptive to the values of Canadian society and above all to acquire a Canadian identity. These parameters are in our opinion paramount in their contribution to Canadian diversity and their integration while striving to reach their full potential with respect and dignity.
We exhort our brothers and sisters members of visible minorities to remain united in the defense and promotion of their interests ensuring thereby their whole participation in Canadian society at all levels..
Finally, we invite our members, our partners and community members to consult from time to time our website in order to take note of our constitution, to inquire about our various programs, our social, cultural and intercultural activities.
Our strength is in our union.
